As LGBT students and allies head back to school, there are excellent local parent support groups that offer both youth and adults a safe space. Two examples are:
Parents, Families and Friends of Lesbians & Gays (PFLAG) – Founded in 1991, this local chapter meets the 2nd Tuesday of every month. Meetings begin with an hour devoted to discussion groups, followed by a unique program for that month. Past programs have featured: community leaders, local LGBT organizations, government representatives, authors, and many other exciting themes.
TransFamily Support Group of Santa Cruz County – A community of parents and families supporting our transgender and gender non conforming children and each other through shared experience and the process of understanding transgender issues. This group meets the 1st Saturday of the month from 3 – 5pm. For more information and location details, call (831) 251 – 7749.
