2021-2022 LGBT/Ally Youth Leadership Opportunities:
The Queer Youth Task Force is proud to announce its Leadership Development Project to inspire, empower, and support LGBT/Allied youth in Santa Cruz County.
The project develops leadership by facilitating youth involvement in local community service and through participation in local, regional, and national conferences.
- Queer & Trans Youth Council of Santa Cruz County (2021-2022): An LGBTQIA+ youth council made up of representatives from local GSA/QSA/SAGA/Rainbow Alliance leaders, ASB officers, youth leaders from places of worship, and other youth clubs and programs. RECRUITING NOW for 2021-2022 school year.
- Queer Resilience and Empowerment — a Google Classroom: An experience for queer, trans, and allied youth to remain engaged with their peers and community during the school closures. We will post lessons about self-care and mental health, queer theory, queer history, and lots more! Also fun videos, memes, cute animal pics, and other healthy distractions. RECRUITING NOW for Spring 2021.
- Queer & Trans People of Color Conference: A weekend-long conference for queer and trans students of color who are activists, organizers, and leaders. Registration and permission slip required — applications required and limited availability. More information TBA.
- Gender Spectrum Camp, East Bay, CA (Summer 2022): A weekend camp in Northern California for Trans*, Gender Non-binary and Cis-gender youth. Includes travel and overnight accommodations — applications required and limited availability. RECRUITING for SUMMER 2022
- BAYMEC Gala, San Jose, CA (Fall 2022): An annual gala put on by a four-county LGBT political action group that has been advocating for the civil rights of LGBT people since 1984. For students who have a strong interest in LGBT politics. RECRUITING for FALL 2022
- Models of Pride Conference, Los Angeles, CA (Fall 2022: A one-day youth-led conference for LGBTQ youth and allies. Includes travel and overnight accommodations — applications required and limited availability. More information TBA.
- Queer, Trans & Allied Student Summit of Santa Cruz County – Virtual Live Streaming (October 10, 2020): A local summit featuring workshops for and by Santa Cruz County LGBTQ youth. No travel outside of Santa Cruz County required — open to all middle school and high school students. Lakeview Middle School, Watsonville, 9:30 am – 2:00 pm.
- Youth Empowerment Summit (YES), San Francisco, CA: A one-day, youth-led conference for LGBTIQ youth and allies organized by the GSA Network. Includes travel organized by local school districts. Registration and permission slip required. More information TBA.
- Creating Change Conference – Virtual Live Streaming (January 2023): A week-long national conference for LGBT activists, organizers, and leaders. Includes travel and overnight accommodations — applications required and limited availability. More information TBA.
