The California State Board of Education is in the process of approving new history textbooks for schools in California. The current textbooks need some additional edits to ensure that LGBT Americans and LGBT history content is included in grades K-8.

Take Action:
- Please submit a public comment, (or just email your comment to: HSSAdoption@cde.ca.gov and encourage your family/friends to do the same, letting the Instructional Quality Commission know how important it is make History and Social Studies a more Fair, Accurate, Inclusive and Respectful experience for all students, including LGBT students and their families.
Some ideas for comments might be:
- “I think it is important that the FAIR Act be properly implemented and that LGBT Americans should be seen in the history textbooks of students in all grades.”
- “I am in favor of making sure that LGBT American and LGBT History be clearly included in the K-5 history textbooks consistent with the FAIR education act of 2011”
- “It is important for all students to see themselves in textbooks used in schools in the State of California. It is important the LGBT History and LGBT Americans be included in all textbooks to make our schools more safe and inclusive.”
