A visible safe person at each school site in the County to which LGBT students, their parents, staff and allies can go to for help, assistance and information.
The Safe Schools Project continues to work with school districts, students and community members to identify Safe School Liaison’s at each school site. If you are interested, or know of a safe staff person at a site, please review the information below and contact Ron Indra.

Job Description for a Safe School Liaison
Below please find a description of this voluntary position:

Term length: 2 years with an option to extend.

Time commitment: Variable, dependent on the school site environment.

We are looking for one staff member at each site although two staff members could share it.

We are most interested in finding staff that are compassionate, caring and supportive of LGBT students, staff and parents.

We are looking for a staff member who is willing to advocate for this population.

We would like someone who is knowledgeable about these issues and community resources although this is not a requirement as we can in-service staff members.

This person’s sexual orientation will not be identified. They will be described as an Ally.

Liaisons will have to furnish their school contact information at the school web site and at the Safe Schools Project web site. (i.e.: phone number and email address) with the best times to reach them.

Liaisons will have to furnish a photograph at the school web site and at the Safe Schools Project web site so that students and parents may recognize the Liaisons easily.

We expect these liaisons to be the eyes and ears on LGBT issues at that site.

There will be a disclaimer protecting the Liaisons. Liaisons are not expected to have all the answers and will be given in-servicing and binders with contact information and resources.

The Safe Schools Project will be responsible ultimately to resolve crisis events.
