Queer Youth Task Force of Santa Cruz County

Safe Schools Project Rubric Survey Print

The Safe Schools Project is in it's final stages of accepting a Rubrics Survey (students, parents, teachers, school site administrators and school district officials in Santa Cruz County) on how well local schools are protecting students. In 2012, United Way will be part of the release of the important report that will give a snapshot of where we can improve local schools in creating a safer place to learn for all students, including our queer and straight ally youth. Complete the Survey here.

A Grand Success! 2011 Queer Youth Leadership Awards

The 14th Annual QYLA was held at San Lorenzo Valley High School on May 14, 2011 and was a grand success! A special thank you to the SLVHS GSA and Supervisor Mark Stone for their warm welcome. Look for QYLA on Community TV soon. QYLA seeks to honor and celebrate queer youth and their allies in Santa Cruz County who have shown outstanding leadership, academic excellence, community engagement, or have had individual impacts on the lives of those around them.  There are 3 award categories: Queer Youth Leadership Award; Ally to Queer Youth Award; Organization Ally to Queer Youth Award.

The mission of The Santa Cruz County Task Force for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Intersex and Questioning (LGBTIQ) Youth -- aka Queer Youth Task Force/QYTF -- is to improve the quality of life for all LGBTIQ youth in Santa Cruz County, as well as children and siblings raised in homes where LGBTIQ people live.

The Task Force is comprised of individuals and organizations that work with, or are interested in helping, queer youth in Santa Cruz County. We exchange information about current services, assess unmet needs, strategize about new resources and improve current resources, collaborate county-wide about ways to improve services, and develop community response to issues that arise.
